Students from Umpqua Community College returned to class Monday, 11 days after a student opened fire and killed nine people.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown talked to returning students and said they seem to be getting a lot of support from the community and the college.

But, she said there is still concern, “I was able to tour the child care center this morning and we saw the incredible level of security that was at the childcare facility," she said.

"Obviously the parents were a little tentative about dropping their children off this morning. But the kids were sure happy to be there. That’s for sure," said Brown.

College president Rita Cavin said they’re reaching out to help students. She thanked community members who lined the road to the school to voice their support.

Asked about what might happen to Snyder Hall, where the shooting took place, she said there will be discussions with the community, the college board and others, but it’s too soon for a decision.
