Police Seek Witnesses To Portland State University Police Shooting

Portland Police are looking for people who might have seen the Portland State University officer-involved shooting of Jason Washington.

The shooting occurred near Southwest College Street between Southwest Broadway and Sixth Avenue around 1:30 a.m., Friday, June 29.

Witnesses said Washington, 45, was trying to break up a fight before he was shot by campus police officers near the Cheerful Tortoise sports bar.

One witness said Washington fell during the altercation, causing a gun to slip from his side. Records show Washington had a concealed carry permit.

The witness also said that Washington may have been trying to retrieve the gun before he was shot.

Portland Police say they believe there are witnesses to the shooting who have not come forward yet. The bureau is encouraging anyone with information to contact Detective Rico Beniga at 503-823-0457.
