The Oregon Departments of Agriculture and of Fish and Wildlife announced Friday the closure of razor clamming in most Clatsop County beaches.
Although Clatsop Beach, one of Oregon's most popular beaches for razor clamming, was supposed to open for razor clam harvesting Friday, recent shellfish samples from the area indicated high levels of the marine biotoxin domoic acid.
Razor clamming is prohibited from the Columbia River to just south of Seaside until further notice due to those toxin levels.
It's also closed from Cape Blanco, near Port Orford, to the California border. Razor clamming remains open from Tillamook head to Cape Blanco.
Mussel and bay clam harvesting is still open along the entire coast.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture will continue testing for shellfish toxins twice per month.
