Longview police officers fatally shoot woman who pointed gun at them

Longview Police shot and killed a woman who pointed a gun at them early Monday morning, according to the Lower Columbia Major Crimes Team.

Investigators say police were called just before 5 a.m. to an apartment in Longview where a man said a woman was attempting suicide and had assaulted him. Officers at the scene contacted the man and removed him from the apartment. But shortly afterward, police say the woman came out and pointed a handgun at the officers.

Three police officers shot the woman and she died at the scene. Investigators identified her as 29-year-old Katelynn Rose Smith, of Longview. The names of the involved officers have not been released. They were put on leave as the investigation continues.
