The Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage according to  a landmark Supreme Court ruling in the Obergefell v. Hodges case. Justice Anthony Kennedy was the swing vote in the 5-4 decision, which most deeply affects the 14 states that still have bans on same-sex marriage in place. The ruling also says that those states will also have to recognize marriages between couples who have already been married in another state.

We discuss the ruling and its ripple effects with Basic Rights Oregon co-director Jean Frazzini, Lewis & Clark Law School professor Jim Oleske, associate professor of law at the Drexel University School of Law Lisa McElroy, and Portland State University professor of women, gender, and sexuality studies at Miriam Abelson.
