Jim Wallis says racial equity was one of the founding principles of his organization, Sojourners, when he launched it in the early 1970s. He's written a dozen books and countless articles over the years. His new book is about racism and white privilege in the context of Christianity.

In "America's Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege and the Bridge to a New America," Wallis postulates white privilege is the legacy of white supremacy, details his own experience working for civil rights, and argues major changes are needed — both on a personal and institutional level — to acknowledge and truly repudiate the deeply entrenched racism in this culture.

We also speak with Rev. Eric Knox with the Imago Dei church in east Portland, and Rev. T. Allen Bethel with Maranatha Church in NE Portland and the Albina Ministerial Alliance.

Jim Wallis will be speaking at Powell's City of Books on W Burnside at 7:30 Monday night.
