Blue Mountains Forest Plan

4.9 million acres of public land in Eastern Oregon are currently operating under plans and science that date back to 1990. The Forest Service is supposed to update their management plans every 15 years, but the Blue Mountains Forest Plan – for the Malheur, Umatilla, and Wallowa–Whitman National Forests – is still in revision. Many people have complained about the bureaucracy in the Forest Service. Others have said there’s a culture of bullying at community meetings outlining the plan. Some are concerned that the new plan will result in restricted use and access to public lands.
