OPB has been honored with three 2024 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The RTDNA is the world’s largest professional organization devoted exclusively to broadcast and digital journalism.
The regional awards are presented to small and large radio, television and digital outlets based on 14 geographic regions. Winners from Region 1 – which comprises Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington – automatically advance to the national competition, where winners will be announced in August.
OPB received the following Regional Murrow Awards in the “Large Market” category:
- Television: Excellence in Video, “SpiderHarp”(“Oregon Field Guide”)
- Radio: Digital, OPB.org
- Radio: Excellence in Sound, “Loot the Deschutes Offers Lost and Found on Bend’s High-Traffic River”
The RTDNA has honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. They are among the most prestigious in broadcast and digital news and are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.
The Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the public.
Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow – a journalism pioneer – set as a standard for the profession of broadcast and digital journalism. Murrow Award-winning stories put public interest above all else, provide a catalyst for public discussion.
RTDNA’s mission is to promote and protect responsible journalism and defend the First Amendment rights of electronic journalists throughout the country.
