From Anna Griffin, OPB vice president of news, talk & podcasts:
OPB’s goal each election season is to bring you the news and information you need to make informed decisions when your ballot arrives. The election results page on opb.org will include results on the most high-profile elections in Oregon and Southwest Washington. But it doesn’t include every race. Each year, we must make tough choices about which campaigns we can devote staff resources to cover, which ones we’ll count on partner organizations to report on and which ones we’ll need to refer you to state and county elections offices to understand in fuller detail.
As a general rule, we focus OPB resources on offices and measures that have the biggest potential day-to-day impact on the largest number of people, that highlight the challenges facing a particular community or population, bring light to a new trend in how campaigns seek to reach voters, or offer a chance to hold those in power accountable for how they use the resources of government institutions. OPB is headquartered Portland, and we have offices and journalists in Southwest Washington, Central Oregon and Eastern Oregon, so our more extensive election coverage focuses on those parts of the region.
Additionally, unlike other media outlets in our state who cover politics and elections, as a member-supported, locally governed nonprofit organization, we do not offer any endorsements of candidates or ballot measures. OPB’s reporting is free of political or funder influence, and we do not accept political advertisements on our TV, radio and online properties. We simply deliver information and report the facts to let you make your own decisions about this election. The generous support of our members makes this journalistic work possible – it sustains us. Because of this support, we can continue to serve those in our region with the trusted, critical reporting you can rely on each day.
As we move closer to election day, stay connected to all of our political reporting at our Elections Ballot Guide at opb.org/elections, and listen to coverage throughout the day on OPB Radio. You can also get analysis from our OPB politics team on the “OPB Politics Now” podcast every Friday, and stay up to date on important stories with our daily email newsletter “First Look,” delivered straight to your inbox.
Like all OPB editorial coverage, our election coverage is guided by our steadfast commitment to journalistic integrity. Now more than ever, reliable, trusted journalism is critical to our democracy and the building of a more informed electorate.
