StarChile took on hosting duties at Mic Check every month at White Eagle in North Portland. This night, before anyone blessed the stage, StarChile and Trox set up a perfect tribute to hip-hop legend Prodigy (of Mobb Deep).

O'Ferrall was diagnosed with lymphoma this spring. His father confirmed his death in a Facebook post. O'Ferrall was host of the long-running showcase Mic Check at White Eagle Saloon.

O'Ferrall also took a leading role in the institution of an annual Hip-Hop Day at Portland City Hall. After years of disputes over enforcement of fire, safety and venue codes, the event built a bridge between musicians, fans and the city's leaders.

O’Ferrall had grappled with health issues before, including kidney failure.

A crowdfunding campaign is raising money to help his family deal with medical expenses incurred over the last few months. He was 42 years old.
