Summer is over. The autumnal equinox arrived at 12:50 a.m. Monday, making the day, astronomically speaking, the official start of fall.

But that doesn’t mean the region’s warm days are all in the past.

David Bishop, a meteorologist for Portland’s branch of the National Weather Service, says unusually high temperatures look like they’ll persist this fall throughout the region.

“The three-month outlook has warmer temperatures than normal and actually leaning more to the dry side when it comes to the precipitation,” he said.

Forecasters are predicting Portland temperatures in the low 70s throughout the next few days. Temperatures will drop on Friday, remaining in the low 60s for the weekend.

The average high for October in the Portland area is 64 degrees. The November average high is 53 and in December, 46 degrees.
