The city of Bend has plans to revitalize an industrial area in the center of town.

Bend’s so-called “central district” is tucked between a set of railroad tracks and the busy Third Street corridor. For years, the city has talked about transforming the area from an industrial zone to vibrant retail and urban housing.

"It could use some love," said Ashley Evert, who co-owns the Three Sisters Inn in Bend’s central district. "I would love to see a lot more mixed-use buildings, maybe things a little higher, a lot more modern. Kind of catering to the next generation of Bend.”

But progress for the central district so far has been slow as the city plans for the area.

The nonprofit Central Oregon Landwatch has also launched an initiative to build support for the district’s transformation.
