The Portland Business Journal reports the layoffs and restructuring are designed to more quickly get products in the hands of consumers while responding to the rapidly changing consumer landscape.

Nike announced the changes as it faces increased competition from Adidas and Under Armor, the later of which recently opened a new footwear headquarters in Portland.

The company's Washington County headquarters are likely to see the brunt of the layoffs, the PBJ reports.

OPB "All Things Considered" host Kate Davidson spoke with Portland Business Journal editor Suzanne Stevens about how this might impact workers in Oregon. Listen to their full conversation by clicking on the audio player at the top of this article.
