UPDATE (3:45 p.m. PT) – Lake County School District #7 will reopen schools Thursday, after social media threats of gun violence over the weekend prompted officials to halt classes and cancel activities for three consecutive days.
“Law enforcement plans to be present during the day … to assist in transitioning back to a school routine,” Superintendent Will Cahill said in a statement.
The rural district in southern Oregon has about 750 students.
Klamath Community College in Lake County, which shares a block of buildings with the district’s schools, also closed.
Seven students were named in a threat made over social media Saturday night, according to a statement from Lake County Sheriff Michael Taylor.
On Wednesday, a 13-year-old female was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.
This week’s ongoing school closure follows an incident last week, when staff locked all school doors for about an hour and halted student movement.
“A situation arose, where students’ behavior escalated to a point that raised concern with school staff,” Lakeview High/Daly Middle School Principal Lane Stratton said at the time.
Officials have not confirmed if the threat made on social media was related to the lockout.
