Search for missing kayaker continues in Willamette River

Several witnesses said they saw the man go over Willamette Falls, but did not see him resurface.

Emergency responders are still searching for a California man who went missing while kayaking in the Willamette River over the weekend.

The 20-year-old was last seen Saturday night in distress near Willamette Falls in Oregon City.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, several witnesses saw the man go over the falls but did not see him resurface. The man’s blue hard-shell kayak was recovered a day later near Elk Rock Island, about 7 miles downstream of Willamette Falls.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone recreating on the Willamette River between Oregon City and Milwaukie to report any items or information that may assist them in their search.

Officials are not releasing the man’s name.
