A small aircraft crashed in Fairview, Oregon, near the Troutdale Airport Saturday morning, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fairview is a city home to about 10,000 people located about 12 miles east of downtown Portland. Troutdale Airport is described on the Port of Portland’s website as a “flight training and recreational airport.”

The federal agency confirms that a two-engine Cessna 421C aircraft went down around 10:20 a.m. Saturday in an emailed statement to OPB. It adds that Port of Portland has sent a crash vehicle and battalion chief for support at the scene.

It wasn’t immediately known how many people were on board, the FAA said in the statement.

A photo of the crash site published by KPTV-TV in Portland shows a home engulfed in flames, while a thick plume of black smoke can be seen in another photo.

Gresham Fire says on Facebook around noon Saturday that it is responding to the fire caused by the plane crash with multiple other agencies, including Port of Portland, Portland Fire and Rescue, and Clackamas Fire.

First responders told OPB that the plane was split into multiple parts at a residential area in Fairview.

As the plane went down, it knocked over a pole and power lines, causing a separate brush fire in a nearby field, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

The Portland General Electric said in early afternoon Saturday that the incident is impacting electricity supply to about 9,000 customers. The utility said power supply was restored to these customers around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into the crash. The agency has sent two investigators to the site of the crash who will document the wreckage, spokesperson Peter Knudson said. He did not release further details about the crash.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
