Indie rock artist Hayden Anhedönia, who is professionally known as Ethel Cain, performed a sold-out concert Tuesday night at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. While the show was under the umbrella of the PDX Live summer concert series, it also served as a stop on her international tour.
The doors to the show opened about 30 minutes earlier than scheduled as the line looped around the block at least three times, with fans hoping to get their spot by the barricade.
With performances of songs including “A House in Nebraska,” “Sun Bleached Files” and “American Teenager,” the show brought Cain’s recent record “Preacher’s Daughter” to the forefront. Additionally, the singer-songwriter performed unreleased tracks titled “Dust Bowl,” “Punish” and “Amber Waves.”
The concert also included an alt rendition of “Bette Davis Eyes” — originally performed by Jackie DeShannon — before closing with “American Teenager,” a crowd favorite.
Portland’s Living Room will host five more concerts as part of PDX Live. The remaining half of the concert series will include performances by Mt. Joy and Waxahatchee, before closing with a show by Sunny Day Real Estate.
