Wildfire near Canby now under control

A wildfire that broke out near Canby early Friday morning is under control.

According to Clackamas Fire officials, people can now return home as evacuation levels have been downgraded to Level 1 “Be Ready” notices. At that evacuation level, residents should be aware that there is fire danger in the area.

The brush fire, which broke out around midnight near South Highway 99 East and South End Road, grew to about 5 acres.

Crews will remain on scene for the next 24 hours to help extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Both directions of Highway 99E south of Oregon City, from about milepost 15 to milepost 19, have reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
