A girl drowned at a public pool in Portland on Friday night.
Officials with Portland Parks & Recreation say the girl was found unresponsive around 8 p.m. in Southeast Portland’s Montavilla Outdoor Pool. Bureau spokesperson Mark Ross told OPB that the pool was open and lifeguards were on duty when it happened.
Staff members performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took the girl to a nearby hospital. Ross announced Wednesday morning that the girl died.
Further details, including her age and identity, have not been released. Officials with the parks bureau and other city teams are investigating the circumstances.
Ross said there had not been a drowning at a city pool since 1985.
