Oregon ACLU files amicus brief over public defender crisis

Several organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon have filed an amicus brief supporting Marion County public defenders. The brief urges the Oregon Supreme Court to direct lower level courts to dismiss criminal cases when public defense attorneys are not available.

Oregon has been contending with a public defender crisis that’s violated the rights of defendants. We hear more from Kelly Simon, the legal director of the ACLU of Oregon.
