Cities across Oregon are racing to create new rules and regulations for how, when and where people experiencing homelessness can set up tents.
Those policies must be in place by July 1 – a mandate set in motion by a state law passed by the state Legislature two years ago. After July 1, cities will bear the legal responsibility if they don’t have standards in place.
It’s a complicated time and tensions are running high in many parts of Oregon. On this week’s episode, OPB politics editor Andrew Theen talks to reporters Alex Zielinski and Joni Auden Land about homelessness, and about how responses to it differ depending on where you are in the state.
