Federal law enforcement is asking for the public’s help solving the murder of Adau Duop, a 25-year-old mother who was killed last year in Southeast Portland.

The FBI announced a $25,000 reward Thursday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooters responsible.

The shooting took place in Portland near Southeast 128th Avenue and Southeast Foster Road. Around 10:35 p.m. on February 20th, 2022, Duop was driving home from a grocery store with her husband and two children.

The family was less than a block from their apartment when, according to law enforcement, a white, stolen SUV pulled up and multiple people opened fire into the family’s vehicle.

“They pulled up to them and just unloaded,” said Kieran Ramsey, the special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “There were multiple shooters, multiple firearms involved here.”

Duop died at the scene. Her husband was shot in the throat. Their 5-year-old was shot in the arm. And their 1-year-old was shot in the leg.

Ramsey said it was “an innocent family” that was “simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“We know there are people out there who know who did this,” Ramsey said. “The entire community needs to stand aghast in the face of something like this. And it’s just something that we can’t allow to be acceptable here.”

Last year, Portland set a record with 101 homicides. That’s led local and federal law enforcement to direct more staff to killings in the city.

Shootings for the first three months of 2023 dropped compared to last year, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Last year, there were 392 shootings between January to March. This year, there were 268 shootings. That’s still significantly higher than 2019 and 2020.

Ramsey asked anyone with information about Duop’s murder to call 503-224-4181.
