Detectives in Vancouver say they believe they have found the bodies of a mother and daughter who went missing earlier this month.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Wednesday to a call regarding two bodies near Washougal. Vancouver police believe them to be Meshay Melendez and 8-year-old Layla Stewart.

The medical examiner’s office is working on determining their causes of death.

Friends and family members reported the mother and daughter missing Saturday. They told police that the two hadn’t been home in days, and that their dog remained alone in the apartment.

Melendez and her daughter were last seen with her ex-boyfriend, Kirkland Warren. Police arrested him Sunday on several charges, including violating Melendez’s no-contact order, assault, drive-by shooting and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Warren also has a pending case for a 2017 homicide in Arkansas, according to The Columbian.
