A fire at a historic theater in Northeast Portland on Saturday morning closed Northeast Sandy Boulevard in both directions between Northeast 70th and 73rd Avenues. Fire crews arrived at the theater just before 6 a.m. to fight the fire.
The Roseway Theater appeared to be overtaken by flames and smoke, but it’s unclear how much damage the theater has sustained.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews began fighting the fire from the outside and reported portions of the building’s interior had collapsed.
No injuries have been reported. PF&R has not reported a cause for the fire.
The Roseway Theater was built in 1924 during the silent film era.
