The Shivas — “Undone”

“Undone” is the second single from the Portland psych-rock band’s forthcoming album “Feels So Good // Feels So Bad,” due out Sept. 24. The song, written and sung by drummer Kristin Leonard, is about something we’re all chasing: balance. “Sometimes we get carried away by enjoyment and overdo it,” Leonard says. “Life’s about finding balance. But in order to find that balance, some healthy reflection and acceptance about where we’ve been are necessary to push us forward with love and wisdom on our journey. So ‘Undone’ is me reflecting on those aspects of myself. And I think most of us can relate.”

Aida Victoria — “Magnolia Blues”

Adia Victoria is a singer, songwriter and poet based out of Nashville who’s often been described as having a “gothic blues” musical style. Victoria leans into this categorization on her latest album, “A Southern Gothic.” The album, which is set to be released on Sept. 17, features the single “Magnolia Blues.” “‘Magnolia Blues’ is an ode to Southern Black folk — too often hemmed out of what we mean when we say ‘Southerner’ — and it is also an ode to the South itself,” Victoria explains in a statement. This song creeps up on you, as musical layers gracefully reveal themselves before fading back to the core essence of Victoria’s alluring vocals.

The Secret Sisters — “Dust Can’t Kill Me”

The Alabama duo The Secret Sisters tackles the Woody Guthrie song “Dust Can’t Kill Me” with foot-stomping style. The rhythmic groove, which includes their signature harmony, gives new life to this classic, which comes from the upcoming compilation album “Home In This World: Woody Guthrie’s Dust Bowl Ballads” (out on Sept. 10). The compilation project was curated by Grammy Award-winning music supervisor and producer Randall Poster and features artists such as Waxahachie, Lee Ann Womack, Colter Wall, Chris Thile, the Felice Brothers and many more.
