Portland Water Bureau leaders say they will speed up the timeline for their new treatment facility and distribute free water filters after recent tests revealed elevated lead levels in some homes.

Portland Public School students will still not be able to use school water fountains when the new academic year starts next week. 

Oregon health officials released an interactive map Wednesday showing which schools have tested their water for lead, and which have not. 

The Portland Water Bureau is taking immediate steps to reduce the amount of lead in the water at taps across the Portland metro area.

Testing has found elevated lead levels in the tap water at 14 homes in the Portland metropolitan area. Officials say the lead is is coming from old plumbing inside individual homes.

School cooks can use water from kitchen sinks again — and one of the top facility officials at PPS is resigning.

The University of Oregon has announced the discovery of lead in residence hall drinking water. Portland Public Schools found lead, likely from paint, in two classrooms.
