The interfaith group of churches, mosques, synagogues and other denominations that championed Oregon’s Measure 114 gun laws is trying to generate momentum to get them fully enacted.

Ballot Measure 114, tightening gun laws in the state, was approved by voters in November but has been held up in courts ever since.

The Oregon Supreme Court denied a state Department of Justice petition asking the court to intervene and throw out a lower court’s temporary restraining order blocking the law from taking effect.

For many Oregon Republicans, this campaign cycle felt like a turning point. Republicans had viable, well funded candidates. And they were competitive in races that were normally dominated by Democrats.

The measure, which narrowly passed this month, bans magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds and requires Oregonians to get a permit to buy a gun.

Overall, the electorate delivered a warning against going too far, against extremes, but we're likely headed for a messy, partisan two years. Here, five lessons learned from last week's midterms.
