Sugar Shack Demolition | Homeless Vets | Police In Schools

• In 2015, a coalition of neighbors and community groups pooled their resources to purchase the building that once housed the Sugar Shack strip club. It was part of an effort to revitalize Portland's diverse Cully neighborhood. On Monday, the former Sugar Shack was finally demolished to make way for 140 units of affordable housing. Ernesto Fonseca joins us. He's the CEO of Hacienda Community Development Corporation, the organization behind the project.

• The state of Oregon is working with local organizations to help them better coordinate services for homeless veterans. Operation Welcome Home is part of a plan to use state lottery funds for veterans services. We talk about the program with the state's veteran housing integrator Gus Bedwell with Oregon Housing and Community Services and Kathy Skidmore with Central Oregon Veterans Outreach.

• The board of Portland Public Schools is considering an agreement that would increase the presence of school resource officers in schools. But students have raised concerns about how more police presence will affect students. Our guests include Grant High School senior Amelia Ernst, and Cleveland High School senior Gwen Kaliszewski.
