Public Employee Compensation | Predictive Scheduling | Community College Policing

• A new study from Portland State University looks at the costs of hiring public employees — in addition to just the salary — including pension, health care, and cost of living increases. The study predicts that the rise in compensation costs will outpace revenue growth. Our guest is Phil Keisling.

• Portland State University Economics emerita professor Mary King co-authored a new report titled "The Impact on Oregonians of the Rise of Irregular Scheduling." She testified in Salem this week about a bill lawmakers are considering about hourly workers' schedules. And Michael Saltsman with the Employment Policies Institute joins us to talk about how San Francisco employers have been affected by a predictive scheduling ordinance that went into effect in 2015.

• Central Oregon Community College's Public Safety Department has recently come to an agreement with the Deschutes County district attorney and Bend Police Department about what sorts of crimes and infractions they can and can't handle after they were found to be violating the law. Deschutes county DA John Hummel joins us.
