Former NPR Science Journalist David Baron
Cathy Koczela / WW Norton
We listen back to our hour-long interview with author David Baron, which we originally broadcast before today's solar eclipse traveled across Oregon. When an earlier eclipse crossed America in 1878, scientists traveling out west to watch it had to contend with train robbers, the U.S. wars with Native Americans and a country that didn't place much of a priority on scientific learning. Baron tells the tale in his book, "American Eclipse."
