Multnomah County Commissioner Jules Bailey To Run For Portland Mayor

The Portland mayor's race just gained another candidate.

Multnomah County Commissioner Jules Bailey says he will launch a mayoral campaign in January. He needs to wait until then to retain his commission seat through 2016.

Until now, it looked as though State Treasurer Ted Wheeler might not face any strong competition. Incumbent Charlie Hales announced earlier he would not seek a second term.

Bailey and Wheeler are both Portland natives who graduated from Lincoln High School. Bailey has served in the Oregon House as well as on the Multnomah County commission.

Bailey says he wants to represent working families.

"I think the people of Portland, the 99 percent deserve a mayor in the 99 percent and not in the 1 percent."

Bailey says he plans to limit campaign contributions to $250.  If he runs, it will open his commission seat in the 2016 election.
