Just after 5 a.m. Friday, an officer approached a person near the baggage claim area on the lower level of the Portland International Airport, according to Port of Portland Police.

The suspect “produced a firearm and a struggled ensued,” Port of Portland Police Chief Jason Wallis said Friday.

Seamster allegedly fired his gun during the struggle and was injured, Wallis said.

Police say the officer did not fire his weapon during the incident. The firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

“The suspect sustained a non-life threatening injury and was treated by medical personnel and treated at a local hospital,” Wallis told reporters Friday. “The officer did sustain a minor injury, but not as a result of the gunshot.”

Court records show Seamster was booked into jail on Friday afternoon.

Seamster is expected to make his first appearance in court Monday afternoon.
