Some parts of Oregon could see snowflakes this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

“It’s going to be one of those kind of messy weekends where we’re likely to see some snowflakes,” said Andy Bryant with NWS.

Bryant said there will most likely be a rain and snow mix coming to Oregon on Friday and Saturday morning.

Snow levels are expected to be down around 500 feet, Bryant said, “probably in the lowest elevations in Portland it’ll be a mix of rain and snow at best.”

In the higher hills, there could be a bit more snow, he said, but there should not be accumulation on roadways below 500 to 1,000 feet.

“Roads are going to be too warm going into the weekend,” Bryant said.

Other areas of Oregon could see some travel impacts.

Bryant said the Coast Range could see anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation. The Cascade Range could potentially see 4 to 10 inches and the area around Hood River could also see a few inches of snow.

Regardless of whether there’s snow or not Saturday, Bryant said to expect cold temperatures Sunday morning.

“Depending on how much we clear out the clouds, we’re looking to be in the mid- to upper-20s Sunday morning,” he said. “That’s just something for people to know with pets and livestock and for those folks who are gardeners … you might need to move those plants back inside for the weekend.”
