Paul Christy is stepping into a position that is weighted equally with that of the artistic director, who oversees all creative decisions for the company.
The company has two leadership vacancies to deal with. The current artistic director, Bill Rauch, announced last summer he'd be leaving for a new job in New York.
When Executive Director Cynthia Rider parted ways with the administrative side, the board initially hoped to have a new executive director in place within a matter of weeks.
It appears that the process has taken a back seat to naming Rauch's successor, which the festival says is in a final phase.
Christy is a retired administrator who has previously held several managerial positions with federal government agencies.
A statement from the company says the festival will launch the search for a permanent executive soon.
