The 60-year-old Lane County resident was brought into PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield on Saturday, experiencing cardiac arrest. After her death, a COVID-19 test was submitted to the state public health lab. The test returned positive Tuesday evening.

The woman lived in the Eugene-Springfield area and did not live in an assisted living facility, Lane County Public Health said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death, but the positive COVID-19 test is “concerning,” the public health agency said.

The agency will conduct a communicable disease investigation and said if a public contact exposure site is identified, that information will be released to the public.
