Oregon Democrats have chosen former Vice President Joe Biden as their pick for the party’s nominee to face President Donald Trump.

In early returns, Biden gathered around 67% of the vote to defeat Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. None of the candidates campaigned or mounted significant campaign operations in Oregon.

President Donald Trump was the only candidate on the Republican primary ballot. Early returns showed him capturing 92% of the GOP vote.

Oregon was the only state with a presidential primary Tuesday. Georgia and Kentucky moved their primaries because of the COVID-19 crisis.

Because of its late date, Oregon's primary rarely plays a deciding role in the Democratic campaign. Four years ago, Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton, capturing 56% of the vote.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley also won the Democratic nomination for his seat Tuesday. Three Republicans were vying for the chance to challenge him in November.
