The home is one of six in a prototype project designed and developed by Hacienda CDC, aiming to determine if modular housing built with mass timber could be a solution in Oregon’s housing shortage. This home was given to Barbara and Scott Benedict, who lost their previous home in the 2020 Echo Mountain fire.

The Oregon legislature approved $5 million in 2021 for a pilot project to study the use of mass timber for modular home construction. This home is one of six in the project, all installed in different climates and regions throughout Oregon to evaluate how the homes withstand a variety of environmental conditions.
