Ongoing icy conditions cause closure of Portland-area schools for another day

The state’s largest school districts — Portland and Beaverton — both announced Wednesday evening that they will be closed again on Thursday. A combination of icy roads and problems at school buildings is behind the closures.

In a message to parents, Portland Public Schools said three schools aren’t in condition to open and 11 others haven’t been fully inspected. More broadly, roads remain dangerous for school buses and cars, with icy streets slow to thaw.
