Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales is running for Congress next year to fill Earl Blumenauer’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Morales officially announced his candidacy on social media on Wednesday. Morales was elected to Gresham’s City Council in 2018 and reelected in 2022. He is currently the treasurer of the Democratic Party of Oregon.

He is the second Democrat to formally announce plans to seek Blumenauer’s seat. That’s after the congressman announced his retirement.

Earlier this week, Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal stepped down from the county board and announced her candidacy.

The 3rd Congressional District stretches from inner Portland east to Hood River. It’s considered one of the safest Democratic seats in Congress.
