Multnomah County opened a temporary library on Monday, as three nearby libraries are closed for construction.

A temporary Multnomah County Library location has opened at the University of Oregon’s Northeast Portland campus.

Voters in 2020 passed a bond measure to expand and renovate the county’s libraries, and the work is expected to continue through the fall of 2024.

The construction means several libraries are concurrently closed for remodels, including three in North and Northeast Portland. The temporary library at the UO campus, on the former site of Concordia University, is meant to offset the impact of those closures.

The library will hold a small collection of books and DVDs. It will provide hold pickups, a 24/7 book return, computer stations, Wi-Fi and free printing services.

The library at the UO campus will stay open through at least summer 2024.
