The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was shot Wednesday morning while serving a civil eviction at an apartment in Tualatin.
Sheriff’s office officials say deputies were trying to detain someone during the eviction around 9:30 a.m.
About an hour later, deputies told dispatchers they were “fighting with a person inside the apartment,” Washington County Detective Anel Ceric said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
“Several seconds later, they notified us that shots were fired,” Ceric said. “One deputy was shot multiple times. At least one deputy returned fire.”
The deputy who was shot was in critical condition as of early Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
For several hours, the area around Forest Rim Apartments was an active crime scene, but in an update shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said the suspect had been located.
Washington County SWAT officers found the suspect dead inside the apartment, Ceric said during the press conference later that afternoon. Ceric said the suspect was not shot by SWAT officers.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
