Shortly after 9 p.m., officers stopped a car at Northeast 78th Avenue and Northeast Mason Street.

According to a police bureau statement, the person and officers exchanged gunfire. The police have not identified the injured person or the officers. Police say the driver was stopped for multiple violations, but did not list them. A handgun was confiscated as evidence, according to police.

Police said the injured person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. None of the officers were shot or injured.

Officials initially said two officers were involved in the incident; that number was updated to four by Saturday afternoon.

The four officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.
