Bocha & Donte Thomas — “MOON ROCKS”
On “MOON ROCKS,” Bocha and Donte Thomas demonstrate why they’re making so much noise in the Portland hip-hop scene. This collaboration comes from their new record “BUDS,” which was released earlier this summer. Here, the duo bounces a constant flow of deft lyricism and a catchy chorus off of slow rumbling bass production that brilliantly manipulates the tempo of the song. It’s a bona fide banger.
CHRVCHES feat. Robert Smith — “How Not To Drown”
CHVRCHES and Robert Smith (of The Cure) have bridged a generational UK talent gap with this explosive new single. The track will be featured on CHVRCHES’ forthcoming full-length album “Screen Violence,” which is set to arrive in late August. “How Not To Drown” is a bold and brash pop song that pairs a stadium-sized sound with the delicate pain emoted by the vocal styles of Smith and CHVRCHES lead singer Lauren Mayberry. “These lyrics are about a time when I just wanted to disappear,” said Mayberry about the track. “I felt like I was in over my head at the deep end and not sure how to get back. But I did get back. And if you’ve felt like that, I hope you find your way back too.”
Sneaker Pimps — “Fighter”
British trip-hop greats Sneaker Pimps have returned after a nearly 18-year hiatus. Their forthcoming album “Squaring the Circle” is set to arrive on Sept. 10. The record’s first single, “Fighter,” displays a more mature and progressive sound than their previous work, with lyrics to match that tone. “‘Fighter’ is a plea for courage and strength against prevailing mental health crises,” founding member Liam Howe explained in a statement.
