John Day considers dropping police department

The city of John Day in Grant County is deciding what to do with its police department. The police chief is retiring later this year, and the city’s budget shortfall has left the town with two options: keep the department by pursuing a levy, or combine forces with the sheriff’s department. We talk with John Day Mayor Ron Lundbom and City Manager Nick Green.
