Shannon Scott served nearly 12 years in the Air Force, including two tours of combat duty in Iraq. She served before her transition to living authentically as a woman. In 2011 the military learned she was transgender and she was given a choice: hide who she was, or sign a dishonorable discharge. Scott joins us to share her story of service, and how her transition led her to become the national trans rights activist she is today. She also discusses the significance of Biden’s repeal of the ban on transgender people in the military, and where she thinks the next important civil rights battle will be.
