The gun violence near PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Tuesday appears to have been a murder-suicide, and investigators have yet to find a link between the shooter and victim.
The Vancouver Police Department said Wednesday night that Douglas Moore, 58, entered the lobby of an office building near the hospital and shot 20-year-old Liliya Zagariya, who was working at the front desk at the time.
Moore then “turned the gun on himself,” police said. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said he fatally shot himself in the chest.
The investigation is ongoing. Police said there’s still no evidence the shooter and victim knew each other. Earlier Wednesday, the police said the shooting “appeared to be random in nature.”
Zagariya worked as a concierge at the office building, where PeaceHealth leases out several spaces for clinics. Her duties included screening people at entrances and taking temperatures, a spokesperson said.
She had worked there three months.
Whether Moore had any connection to PeaceHealth remains unclear. A hospital spokesperson said they are actively working with police. A police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
