Portland police arrested Demetria Hester, a well-known Black activist and survivor of a 2017 hate crime, Sunday night during a protest outside the headquarters of the police union.

Portland activist Demetria Hester has been attending nightly protests against police violence and systemic racism since demonstrations began in Portland more than two months ago. After the collapse of the Wall of Moms, Hester and other Black leaders organized the group Moms United for Black Lives. Hester, who was arrested Sunday night, tells us about the group, her organizing at the nightly protests and what changes she wants to see.
