- Illustrator Carson Ellis

- Inspired by scenes from sad and distant times, like Siberia or the Great Depression, illustrator Carson Ellis creates drawings that look like scenes from a fairy tale, so it's no surprise that she also does children's book illustrations. Ellis is most famous, however, for her work with the band the Decembrists. She's done album covers for them, as well as additional art and designs for T-shirts.

- Teenage Violinist Alex Hargreaves

- In memory of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, violin maker Jonathan Cooper created a special instrument to be awarded to promising violinists. Last year, internationally famous fiddler Marc O'Connor chose Alex Hargreaves of Corvallis to get to play the special instrument. Still a teenager, Alex is the youngest musician to win the award.
