Sonja Skvarla

Don’t talk to Sonja Skvarla about second chances.

“I don’t actually believe in second chances,” Skvarla says. “I believe that life is cumulative. Second chances means you got one more shot to do this right. We need all the moments that came before to be successful in the next one and the next one…second chances doesn’t get us there, and there’s a lot in that statement that says, ‘what came before, wasn’t right.’”

She spoke with OPB’s Weekend Edition Host John Sepulvado about rebounding from failure, and why she works in the prisons.
