Host Geoff Norcross along with OPB political reporters Jeff Mapes and Chris Lehman talk about the Secretary of State’s race, which is surprisingly interesting this year!

It's an open seat and Republican Dennis Richardson is facing off against Democrat Brad Avakian and Green Party candidate Alan Zundel. Richardson has garnered a lot of endorsements, including from the usually left-leaning Willamette Week.

If he wins, he’ll be the first Republican to take statewide office since 2002 and the first Republican Secretary of State since 1984.

In addition to running elections and auditing government agencies, the Secretary of State is second in line to the governor, as we all learned when John Kitzhaber resigned and Kate Brown took on the office.
